Ogre Primary school is a public school with 695 students aged from 7 to 12 years.
Ogre Primary school is the largest primary school in Ogre Municipality.
Our mission as a school is to raise students who are qualified, determined, honest, reliable and well educated.
School priorities are:
- improving the quality of education, particularly in early school years- in native language, mathematics, science, foreign languages;
- promote healthy lifestyle;
- provide special needs pupils with optimal conditions for personality development and learning;
- perceive students’ strengths, motivating to learn, develop interests and talents in various afterschool activities;
- integrate school community locally and within European Union;
- cooperate with partners from other countries in order to exchange experiences.
To provide inclusive education students with special education needs are integrated in the regular classes and most part of teachers have special qualifications. The school has psychologists and speech therapists who individually assist and support students.
After lessons students can attend different interest groups, art and sport activities and most of them spend at school all day.
There are many students who come from Russian and other minority families. Although there are lots of Latvian families who move to foreign countries, the new challenge for us is Latvian students, who return to school after their families have lived abroad for a long time. Part of our pupils come from families with low socio-economical background, problematic families, where we meet such problems as divorce, lack of child care, children’s abuse, domestic violence, family conflicts.
Teachers at our school do a really great effort in modifying and improving their teaching methods and materials to meet current student needs.
According to the changes in the education system of Latvia, more and more 6 years old students start learning at school. Therefore the teaching approach and curriculum must be changed according to students’ natural world perception, the need to move, to learn through doing.
This project will help to share experience and examples of good practice with teachers from other participating countries how to make easier integration of pupils in school by using dance, music, sports and social activities, increase their self-confidence by showing their competences and talents. With this Erasmus project we intend to learn from other partners to be more efficient, to make students more active in the learning process, to offer them exciting and innovative learning opportunities through collaboration and cooperation with their peers from other countries with European dimension. As a small country we strongly care about retention of the historical and cultural heritage to future generations, and our school is a place where students are taught to respect and to promote national values and at the same time realize that they are a part of European society.
Work on the project will be a great acquirement for every participating member’s individual and the school’s overall development.
School has a website with a useful information which is updated regularly.
